IBAR RIVER RAFTING

Rafting – downhill over the Ibar River from the mouth to the medieval town of Maglic, passing through the most attractive water trail “Buk Grmčić” for those who enjoy extreme sports. For lovers of natural beauty and those who want to enjoy the beautiful scenery, we will organize peaceful rafting from the town of Maglic to Mataruska Spa with the involvement of a professional team and the possibility of renting the entire equipment. There is tradcionalni rafting on the river Ibar called “Happy downhill” which is held every year in late June or early July, from the medieval town Maglic to the city of Kraljevo.

 

PARAGLIDING

For adrenaline junkies, it is possible to fully enjoy paragliding from the mountain tops of Stolovi mountain overlooking the “Lilacs Valley” known as the “Valley of the centuries”, medieval town of Maglic panoramic view of the Mataruska Spa and Bogutovacka Spa.

 

NEARBY SPAS

vrnjacka banjaVrnjacka Spa has a long tradition of healing. On the hot mineral spring in the period from II to IV century, the Romans built a health resort and convalescent AQUAE ORCINAE. This is proved by archaeological findings in the narrow part of the Roman baths, respectively, swimming pools, Roman hot springs of mineral water (Fons Romanus) and lots of coins that were left in the healing source. Roman legionaries and Romanized aristocracy came here for treatment and recovery.

 

bogutovacka banjaBogutovacka Spa is located in central Serbia, 200km south of Belgrade city and 23km from the city of Kraljevo. Located at 520m above the sea level and has a mild continental climate. Bogutovacka Spa is located next to the Ibar highway, it is connected to by asphalt road of 2.5 km in length. Treatment is bathing and drinking mineral water with temperature of 24-27 °C. Supervision of the patients is carried by a team of doctors from Natural healing “Mataruska Bogutovacka Spa”. The Ibar River, which flows through Mataruska Spa is rich in white fish, Skobalj (Chondrostoma nasus) and Morena, and even smaller specimens of Siluridae, while in the immediate surroundings on the rivers Lopatnica and Studenica, Salmonidae can be fished. In the mountains of Stolovi and Goc you can go hunt small wild animals (quail, rabbits), but with the permission of the Hunting Association of Serbia at certain times of the year it is possible to hunt larger animals (deer, wild boar).

 

MEDIEVAL TOWN MAGLIC

grad maglicMedieval town Maglic is located on the right bank of the Ibar River, about 16km south of the city of Kraljevo. It was built on a narrow rocky ridge plateau that dominates the entire environment. It is one of the most beautiful monuments of Serbian medieval military architecture. Maglic was probably built in the 13th century. Between 1324 and 1337, Archbishop Danilo II rebuilt the walls, the church of St. George and the palace whose ruins have survived to the present day. Danilo II was a famous biographer of Serbian medieval rulers and in Maglic he founded a monastic school. The basis of the fortifications in the form of an elongated irregular polygon. Surrounded by the river on three sides, and on the east side, through the rock, was dug trench. The fort has seven massive towers and a donjon tower, which was the residence of its master.

 

MONASTERIES

manastir-djurdjevi-stupoviDjurdjevi Stupovi is a monastery dedicated to St. George, which is located on the hill above the town of Novi Pazar. Djurdjevi Stupovi is one of the oldest Serbian monasteries. The monastery was built by the great ruler Stefan Nemanja.

 

 

 

 

manastir-gradacGradac Monastery is situated on a raised plateau above the Gradac river, on the edge of the forested slopes of the mountain Golija. It is located 21km northwest of Raska and 12.5 km west of Brvenik and Ibar highway. The exact date of construction of the monastery is not known. It is believed that it was completed in last quarter of the 13th century. It’s Endowment of Helen of Anjou.

 

 

 

 

manastir-ljubostinjaLjubostinja Monastery is located near the city of Trstenik and 9km north-east of Vrnjacka Spa. It is located in the valley of the small mountain river (River Ljubostinja). It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Holy Virgin. The monastery was built from 1388 to 1405. In the Ljubostinja Monastery were buried Princess Milica, wife of Prince Lazar and cloistress Jefimija.

 

 

 

manastir-sopocaniSopocani Monastery, home of the Holy Trinity, was built by King Stefan Uroš I (1243-1276) near the source of the river Raska. The monastery is located 17km to the west of the city of Novi Pazar. At this place, the source of Serbian medieval state of Nemanjici, the third son of King Stefan I left behind this endowment.

The first phase of work was completed in the spring of 1196, when Stefan Nemanja gave the throne to his son Stefan the First Crowned and retired to his endowment. When he later went to the Hilandar Мonastery, Stefan the First Crowned take care about Studenica.

 

 

 

manastir-zicaZica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located near the city of Kraljevo. The monastery, together with the Church of the Holy Dormition was built by the first King of Serbia, Stefan the First Crowned. The monastery was destroyed in the 13th century, but was rebuilt by King Stefan Milutin in the early 14th century.

 

 

 

manastir-stara-pavlicaStara Pavlica Monastery is located in the village of Pavlica, on a rocky plateau above the river Ibar, 6 km north of the town of Raska. It is assumed that it originates from before the era of Nemanjici and was built at the beginning of their rule.

 

 

 

 

manastir-nova-pavlicaNova Pavlica Monastery is located beside the river Ibar in Brvenik, not far from the Monastery Stara Pavlica and the remains of the fortress Brvenik. Built by in the late fourteenth century by brothers Music (Stefan and Lazar), as their endowment and it is considered that they are, after their death in Battle of Kosovo, were buried beneath their portraits in the monastery church.
